Task 2 - Composition Rule Images

1. Rules of Thirds

The rule of thirds is use when the image is split in thirds, and something is happen one the
left/top third or right/bottom third. in the is photo the puppy is located in the right third.

2. The Golden Rule

As the tree is in the bottom right hand corner, it has our attention for the longest. Making
this
image 'The Golden Rule'.

3. Leading Lines

The lines (paths/tracks) in this image lead our eyes to the horizion.

4. Perspective

In this, the angle that the photo was taken gives us the affect that he is sitting against down
on the
edge of some building. But iun fact he was just laying down on the road and in a pose.
This show that
with this perspective it look like some other thing is happening but isn't.

5. Framing Images

The element use for this photo is 'framing'. The side windows of the cab frames the two
people on
the other side of the cab.

10 Basics Functions Photography Test

NAME: __Sophia___ SCORE OUT OF:         /16

Worksheet #1: Sidewalk Talk

1. Does this photo have a short depth of field or long depth of field? Given the depth of field what is a more likely F/Stop or Aperture 4 or 16? (2pts) The image has a long depth of field. And is more likely an f/16.

2. The person walking in the background is also in focus. Given that there is no motion blur what would be a more likely shutter speed 1/30 or 1/250? (1pt) 1/250

3. Given what we know from question #1 and #2 do you think that this picture was taken on a very bright day or an overcast day? (1pt) It was an bright day as there was a small aperture and a fast shutter speed.

4. If we wanted the person in the background to show motion blur what should be done to the shutter speed? (3pts) if we wanted a motion blur we would use a slow shutter speed, like at ¼.

5. If we change the shutter speed we also need to change the aperture. Why? (3pts)  You have to change the aperture as well because we have to follow that exposure triangle. The exposure triangle make sure you have a good expose which mean that if changing one of them the other have to be adjusted to obtain good exposure.

 Worksheet #2: The Game

1. This is an evening football game. Even though the players are in motion they are all clear and in focus, what does that tell us about the shutter speed (fast or slow)? (1pt) This tells us that it is a fast shutter speed.

2. Given the shutter speed needed to keep the players in focus and remembering that this is an evening game what do you think is a more likely F/Stop 4 or 16. Why? (3 pts) the f/stop would be f/4 as more light is need to get good exposure (since we are already using a fast shutter speed) and as it is an evening game there wouldn’t be much light.

3. Given the answer you gave to question #2 what would you expect the depth of field to be in this photo (short or long) (1pt) The depth of field is short.

4. If this game was played on a sunny afternoon day but you still wanted the action stopped or frozen, what would you have to do the aperture? (1pt) You would make the aperture smaller (f/16)

The Exposure Triangle

Low Shutter Speed + Small Aperture = Correct Exposure
Fast Shutter Speed + Large Aperture = Correct Exposure

Low Shutter Speed + Large Aperture = Incorrect Exposure
Fast Shutter Speed + Small Aperture = Incorrect Exposure

400     1/60     f8

-2 . . 1 . . 0 . . 1 . . 2

400 = ISO = Very Sensitive
1/60 = Shutter Speed = Slow Shutter speed (1/60 of a second)
f8 = Aperture = Large Apture

Task 1 - Shutter Speed, Aperture & ISO images

Aperture

The image above was taken using a large aperture.
This is so that the background is blurred out so we can focus on the main object 'the puppy).
This image has a small depth of field to the image below.

The image above was taken using a small aperture.
The small aperture was used so the whole landscape could be focused and so we could
get more detail of the whole image. So this image has a large depth of field.

Shutter Speed

The image above is a still image. A still image is when the camera is set at a high shutter speed.
Which captured the moment the light bulb was broken. This image is called 'freeze frame'.

This image above is of lights of passing cars. This was taken at a slow shutter speed. As the image
has only captured the lights of passing cars. The slow shutter speed gave more time for light
to come in to the camera, which gave us this effect.

ISO

This image was taken out side. the each photo was taken using different ISO.
The image on the left is more clear and smooth but is slightly dark.
While the image on the right is bright but has more noise, which affected how smooth the
image was.

Shutter, Aperture + ISO Basics Q&A

1. In relation to light, what does the shutter speed determined? It determines how much light hit the image sensor.
2. What is the shutter speed generally used to control? How long the shutter be open for.
3. What effects can different shutter speeds create? Freeze frame & Blur
4. Explain the difference between large and small apertures? LARGE - More light get through and is more used for focusing on a object/small area. SMALL - Less light gets in and is more used for a detailed of everything.
5. What is depth of Field? How much (area) of the image can be focused.
6. What effect does a small aperture and large aperture have? SMALL - Large depth of field LARGE - small depth of field.
7. Explain the relationship between ISO and light sensitivity? The ISO sets the image sensor's sensitivity for a "good" exposure.
8. What is 'noise' grain? How much grainy the image is.
9. Explain what "each element does not work in isolation" means? N/A
10. Explain the Exposure Triangle? The Exposure Triangle consists of 3 elements (ISO/ASA, Shutter Speed and Aperture) and this means that if you were to adjust one of the 3, you would have to ajust 1 of the others to get a 'good/correct' exposure.
